Gregg Kofi Brown’s surprise cameo appearance at Jazz a la Villette’s Tribute to Fela Kuti in Paris with Lauryn Hill, Seun Kuti, Tony Allen & Cheick Tidiane Seck was a humbling experience for him. However the jam session at La Petite Halle (next to the venue) with Tony, Cheick, bassist Cesar Anat, Gregg Kofi and members of Lauryn’s band was definitely an added bonus to the evening.
Regarding his onstage appearance with Lauryn he admitted it wasn’t the first time “We first played together in Kenya and Uganda.
She was there on a fact finding mission to see how she could help the refugees in East Africa. I was there filming a documentary about her trip but people wanted to hear her sing…she had a guitar and asked me to accompany her” .
